Chain letter

A nine-year-old girl named Jamie once got a chain letter in her inbox:

HELLO JAMIE

MY NAME IS MARY LOUISE. WHEN I WAS TEN YEARS OLD, AN ESCAPED KILLER CAME INTO MY HOUSE AND STABBED ME TO DEATH. THERE WAS NO ONE TO SAVE ME, BUT I’LL SAVE YOU. SEND THIS EMAIL TO FIVE PEOPLE AND YOU WILL HAVE GOOD LUCK FOR A WEEK. DELETE IT, AND AT 12:01 TONIGHT, YOU WILL DIE.

Jamie was scared, but before she could forward it, her mom came into the room and read the email. “Delete it. It doesn’t do anything but annoy all your friends,” she said.

“But she knows my name!” Jamie said. Her mom reached over her shoulder and clicked the delete button.

Jamie stood up, tears in her eyes. “You’re going to feel really horrible if I die tonight!” she said, before stomping out of the room.

That night Jamie sat up in bed, clutching a pair of scissors for protection. But at midnight, she fell asleep.

When Jamie’s mom went to wake her up the next morning, there was no one in Jamie’s bed, just a pair of scissors. But a police investigation showed that someone had sent an email from the family’s computer at 12:01 a.m. that night:

HELLO MIA

MY NAME IS JAMIE…
